Happy Birthday to Me

I love birthdays.

You know how they say that when you get older, birthdays aren’t so exciting? I’ve never found that to be the case. Admittedly, I might change my mind in the future. But right now, I still love them.

I love waking up and knowing that it’s my birthday. I love opening presents (even when I already know what they are). I love the handmade cards Big Brother makes me.Β I love the feeling of being another year older, and another year further along in my goals. I love feelingΒ like I can put the last year behind me, the good and the bad, and start with a clean slate.

(As a note, that’s also why I’ve always loved Mondays.)

It’s my birthday today, and I’m excited. I’m not going to tell you how old I am. But if you’d like to guess, I can give you a clue.

It’s a multiple of 12…

Oh, wait. That’s too easy. Okay, try this one instead:

It’s a multiple of 3.

Yeah, that should do it. Unlikely anyone will ever guess my age now!

Do you still look forward to your birthday? Do you like getting older and/or wiser, or do you dread it?

  1. I totally love my birthday! Imagine, a whole day just to celebrate ME. There should be more of them. : -) I like to stretch mine out for the entire month, letting people treat me to meals and movies and anything else I can get, cause it’s all about ME. But today, it’s all about YOU. So happy birthday! Thanks for sharing w/ us.

    • When I was a bit younger, I used to go for the Birthday Month. Now that I’ve got a couple of children, they’re not so keen to play along. But I always think of October as MY month anyway. πŸ™‚

  2. Happy Birthday!
Age is a thing of Mind over Matter…If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter!

Multiple of both 12 and 3…?. oh, right of course.

Happy 24th Birthday. Hope you enjoy your day.

  4. Happy Birthday Jo. I hope you had a fabulous day πŸ™‚

  5. Happy Birthday! I’m guessing 21. That is what I’m turning this year although it is nowhere remotely near my actual age.

  6. Happy 36th(?) Birthday!

I suppose I do look forward to my birthday as it seems like a good excuse for slacking off for a day. But I also kind of dread it because other folks want to make a much bigger deal of it. You know… parties, celebrations, and whatnot, when I’d honestly rather just spend the day in bed catching up on old movies.

    • Oh, Dan. If I knew you in person, I would totally be one of those people wanting to make a big fuss. That’s the best part about birthdays! Unless you hate parties, I suppose…

Yay for guessing my age correctly. Were my clues too easy?

  7. With your positivity, this will be a spectacular day! Enjoy.

  8. Happy Birthday! Have a wonderful day!

  9. Happy Birthday. Praying your year is blessed. I think we are always younger than our ages – at least in our thinking and behavior.

    • These days we are. I remember being a kid and thinking people in their 30s were terribly old. But sometimes I still have to remind myself that I don’t need adult supervision to watch a movie rated for 18+ years!

Happy Birthday! I’m still older then you! I’m 39 hahahaha! (again)

  11. Oh Happy Happy!! I’m 41 and I love love love birthdays. Especially since I was bad in my 20s, sad in my 30s and ready to sail in my 40s. I’ve seen really high and really low (not just because of my bipolar). Yes, I’ve developed quite a few grays that I need to cover and yes I’m more than a little chunky and my credit sucks but it’s all about moving forward, like you said!!! Of course you feel the same as me.

    • Was there ever any doubt we’d feel the same? πŸ™‚ I think it’s the lows that make us appreciate the highs, and the highs that makes us appreciate the parts of life that are smooth and consistent and predictable. And what are birthdays for if not celebrating that we’ve made it through another year and we’re standing on the precipe of a new one, wondering whether we’ll glide, swoop or climb our way into the next.

      Also: Cake.

  12. Happy Birthday!!! I enjoy wishing people Happy Birthday and To day I have wished you a Happy Birthday πŸ™‚ You are only as old as you feel, so I always feel like a child (he he) which was many years ago. Enjoy your day, have fun and keep smiling πŸ™‚

  13. Dian Ara

Here’s my guess: You’re as wise as 36 and look as young as 24. Happy birthday!

  14. Hey, happy belated birthday (hard to keep up with things when the internet is down for a few days).

    You young whippersnapper. πŸ™‚
